Last year, Cal athletics had yet another outstanding season. Cal's 27 varsity sports teams ranked seventh nationally in overall excellence in the Directors' Cup standings; it was the Bears sixth Top-10 finish in the past seven years. Critic's Choice highlights what's happening this week at Berkeley. The university hosts an amazing parade of cultural offerings, from symphonies to plays to sold-out rock concerts and lectures. Venues include:

 Yo-Yo MaCal Performances: Acclaimed performing arts center presents top artists such as best-selling novelist David Sedaris, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, the Alvin Ailey dancers, and economist Paul Krugman. Schedule >
