(Jonathan King photos)Crowds turn out for Summerfest staff-appreciation event
14 May 2009
BERKELEY — Hundreds of campus employees sunned and socialized for two well-earned hours on Wednesday, May 13, at Summerfest!, the 21st annual staff-appreciation event, sponsored by the Berkeley Staff Assembly. Staffers enjoyed a free lunch, availed themselves of giveaways and wheel-of-fortune opportunities at numerous booths, and soaked up the sunshine.
Summerfest was developed in 1986 by the Chancellor's Staff Advisory Committee (CSAC). Since then a committee of staff volunteers has annually organized the event, with the assistance of the Chancellor's office and local businesses.
Business was hopping at a number of booths. Free "Warn Me" notebooks, reminding staff about the campus's new emergency-warning system, were a hot item; but the longest queue of the day was at the booth where free Summerfest! T-shirts were being handed out.
