NATURAL GAS BUSES The campus's eight large passenger buses look and run alike. But three of them no longer leave black smoke in their wake. Their standard diesel engines were converted to run on natural gas, not diesel fuel. These passenger buses are the first in the country to be converted through a new technology called High Pressure Direct Injection. Westport Innovations performed the transformation with funding from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, the California Air Resources Board and the California Energy Commission. |
