Walking Tours

Central Campus

10 am-3 pm (Tours at 10, 11, 11:30 am; noon; 12:30 1, 1:30, 2, 3 pm)
Explore the campus on a one-hour walk led by a trained student tour guide. Guides talk about traditions, student life, history, and architecture of the Berkeley campus.
Meet at the yellow Tour Tent on Dwinelle Plaza, near the Information Center.

The Library

If you like books, you'll love this tour of the campus’s outstanding main library. Check the tour schedule at the north and south entrances to Doe Library.
Guided tours begin at the north entrance, and self-guided tours start at both the entrances.

The Campus Tree Trail

9 am-4 pm
Amazing natural beauty is part of what makes the Berkeley campus unique. Learn more with this self-guided tour of campus trees.

Residence Halls

10 am-4 pm
Tours of campus residence halls will leave every 30 minutes, with the last departing at 3:30 pm. Tours include a residence hall orientation and a look at a student room, dining areas, and the Academic Service Center. Refer to the campus map for the location of each unit:

Unit 1 (co-ed high-rises): Meet at the stage at the center of the Unit 1 complex or, in case of rain, in the Putnam Hall main lounge.

Unit 2 (co-ed high-rises): Meet in the All-Purpose Room of the Unit 2 complex.

Unit 3 (co-ed high-rises): Meet on the Unit 3 volleyball court or, in case of rain, in the All-Purpose Room of the Unit 3 complex.

Unit 4 Bowles Hall (single-sex residence hall for men): Meet in the Bowles main lounge.

Unit 4 Stern Hall (single-sex residence hall for women): Meet in the Stern main lounge.

Unit 4 Foothill La Loma and Hillside (co-ed and single-sex suites): Meet in the Foothill Assembly Room.

Unit 5 Clark Kerr Campus (single-sex suites and co-ed halls): Meet at Clark Kerr Campus, Building 1.

Residential Living Theme Housing

10 am-4 pm
Berkeley has several unique living programs organized around themes, including the African American, Asian Pacific American, Casa Magdelena Mora, Global Environment, Unity House, and Women in Science and Engineering theme houses.
Tours or programs presented by three of the houses are listed here; visit table #68 in the Information Marketplace for information on all of the theme houses.

Global Environment Theme House and Green Suite. Students interested in environmental issues and being part of a close community, should check out this unique living option. Visit the house’s Green Suite for a look at simple steps you can take to be more environmentally conscious and lessen your impact on the Earth.

Women in Science & Engineering. This living and learning environment is for women with a strong interest in math, science, and engineering. Learn how the program helps students expand their awareness, understand potential fields of study, and gain the skills to succeed at Cal.

Student Co-ops

10 am-3 pm
One-hour walking tours of selected co-ops will be offered, and some will host open houses.
Tours leave on the hour from the University Students’ Cooperative Association table, #67 in the Information Marketplace; details on co-ops are available there.

Student Family Housing

11 am-4 pm
Tour the new West Village apartments in Albany, available to married or partnered students, with or without children, and to students who are single parents. An additional 324 apartments (including three-, two-, and one-bedroom units) will open in August 2008 as part of University Village — three miles from campus on the 52L and 18 bus lines. Take a look!

Many campus libraries, departments, and museums offer tours for Cal Day. There is much to see in labs and classrooms, and there are opportunities to view special collections and exhibits — some not usually open to the public.
